Small 2K/HD video camera

The 2KSDI-Mini is a compact light-weight HD video camera with professional 10-bit SDI output. It can be used as a point-of-view (POV) camera for live events and sports broadcasting, fitting in tight locations where larger cameras are impractical. Or, combined with an SDI video recorder, the 2KSDI-Mini can be used for specialty digital cinematography and feature production use. Following in the footsteps of the IO Industries 2KSDI camera, the 2KSDI-Mini provides the same flexibility and ease of use with enhanced picture quality and a smaller form factor. All together, this camera makes it easier to bring new angles of HD video to the world, enhancing multi-camera productions of all kinds.

Global or rolling shutter sensors

Two 2KSDI-Mini models are available to choose from. Both offer the same internal features and the same variety of 2K/HD output formats, but they incorporate different CMOS sensor types. The standard 2KSDI-Mini features a 1/2"-format Sony CMOS sensor with global shutter capability, making it best for applications involving fast motion or rapid movement of the camera. The 2KSDI-Mini RS features a 2/3"-format Sony CMOS sensor with rolling shutter, which is better suited for stationary camera or limited-movement applications. The picture quality and sensitivity on both models is similar, so the choice between the models comes down to which is suited best for the application.

Interchangeable lenses

The 2KSDI-Mini features a native C-mount lens interface which allows easy interchangeability between hundreds of compact lenses available today. This flexibility to easily swap between fisheye, portrait, zoom, telephoto and many other kinds of lenses adds to the versatility of the 2KSDI-Mini. C-mount lenses are compact and typically manually-adjustable lenses, and are commonly used for industrial and surveillance imaging. Adapters are available to attach other types of lenses such as photography, broadcasting or cinematography lenses using B4, PL, Nikon F, Canon FD, and other mount types. An active adapter for Canon EF-mount lenses is available allowing the camera to remotely adjust the focus and aperture on the attached EF-mount lens.

Multi-format SDI video output

With two SDI outputs on DIN 1.0/2.3 connectors, the 2KSDI-Mini provides a range of options to connect to legacy and modern HD video equipment. The output format is selectable between 720p, 1080i, 1080p and DCI 2K at rates from 23.98 to 60.0 fps. The primary output can optionally show the on-screen menu for quick settings adjustments, or it can be shown only on the secondary output, leaving the primary output "always clean". The secondary output is a mirror of the primary output, with the on-screen menu optionally shown. This makes it helpful for monitoring or even changing settings while the primary signal is live or being recorded. The DIN 1.0/2.3 connectors are rugged and support either push-pull type or screw-on type cables for higher-vibration environments.

Packed with features

The 2KSDI-Mini can be set up quickly using intelligent features like auto white balance and automatic exposure, but unlike other small POV cameras, these features can be easily disabled to allow precise fine-tuning of the color processing performed by the camera. The 2KSDI-Mini has manual white and black balance controls with saturation adjustment, color temperature presets and a 3x3 color correction matrix. 1D look up tables (LUTs) with standard and high dynamic range options, RGB tone LUTs, master pedestal and field-adjustable gamma curve features are also standard. Control to this degree is expected from larger broadcast studio and digital cinematography cameras, but can now be found in a compact POV camera as well!

Packed with features

Easy to use, easy to integrate

The 2KSDI-Mini is controlled through a two-wire RS485 serial connection. Operators can use a handheld remote control for quick camera adjustments through the on-screen menu. For live broadcast environments, 3rd-party remote control panels (RCPs) are available as well, allowing quick adjustments of paint and shading functions. PC-based control is possible through a USB-RS485 adapter and an easy-to-use software utility provided with the camera. Or, for complete systems integration, the full camera control protocol is straight-forward and fully documented for developers to incorporate into other control systems.

Multi-camera synchronization

Shutter synchronization is critical for multi-camera applications such as stereoscopic 3D, VR-360, or even volumetric video capture. As well, in live broadcast facilities, cameras need to be able to slave to a master sync reference in order to allow cuts/fades between cameras. Otherwise, cameras must be paired with frame synchronizers which can add to the total video delay. The 2KSDI-Mini accepts an HD tri-level sync signal through a dedicated DIN 1.0/2.3 input. If this signal is distributed to multiple cameras, microsecond-level shutter synchronization between the cameras can be achieved.
